Gabriel Jesus could be out for season

Man City striker Gabriel Jesus may not play again for the remainder of the season, after sustaining a broken bone in his foot.

The Brazilian suffered the injury during a Premier League win over Bournemouth on Monday night and subsequently underwent surgery on Thursday.

There were initial fears over the nature of the injury and the club later confirmed that it was a broken metatarsal bone.

The metatarsal bones are five bones located in the forefoot which connect the ankle bones to bones in the toes. Healing time can take anything between six and eight weeks and a protective boot is normally worn for the first four weeks.

Since arriving in January, Jesus has enjoyed a promising start at Man City. His impressive performances have seen him effectively displace resident striker Sergio Ageuro to the bench and looked to have secured a spot in the starting 11.

But Guradiola insists that City will survive in the absence of Jesus, saying they have adequate replacements to provide cover.

He told the Mirror:

"We played Tottenham without Gabriel and we played really good against one of the best teams in the Premier League. We did very good things with Gabriel, but also without him."

"We have seven strikers. We are going to use another one and, of course, Sergio will be so important for us."

City take on Huddersfield in the FA Cup later today and Aguero is expected to start.
