Public pay commission chairman defends comments after backlash from gardaí
The chairman of the Public Service Pay Commission has been accused of making “damaging and divisive” comments over the potential garda strike.
Speaking at an industrial relations conference this morning, commission chairman Kevin Duffy said the threatened strike action could best be described as a “mutiny.”
Mr Duffy said the planned strikes by the Garda Representative Association (GRA) and the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) were illegal, “by any standard.”
Agreement reached to move National Maternity Hospital to new campus at St Vincent's
The Taoiseach has described as “truly memorable and historic” an agreement on a new national maternity hospital in Dublin.
The agreement will see the National Maternity Hospital moved from Holles street to the St Vincent’s Hospital campus.
Holles Street and St. Vincent's had been at odds over the governance of the facility - but have now reached a deal after mediation.
At least 100 dead following suicide truck bomb in Iraq
At least 100 people have died after a suicide truck bomb exploded at a petrol station in Iraq.
The so called Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack which left a further 45 people injured.
The blast occurred in the city of Hilla 100 km south of Baghdad on Thursday.
It is thought the target may have been buses carrying Iranian pilgrims, who were heading home after celebrating a major Shi’ite religious holiday in Karbala.
Garda commissioner says security "not compromised" by her use of Gmail
The Garda Commissioner has insisted there is no evidence any information has been compromised following her use of a Gmail account for Garda business.
Nóirín O’Sullivan said garda systems are secure and there is nothing to suggest the forces security controls have been compromised.
The commissioner appeared before the Policing Authority this afternoon - where her use of gmail was added to the agenda.
Authority members made it clear to senior garda management that they had examined garda policy on the use of outside email - and that it had been breached.
