Defending champions Japan will face the Netherlands tonight in Women's World Cup

Defending champions Japan will face the Netherlands tonight in order to secure a place in the quarter finals of the Women's World Cup.

The winner of the game will advance play against Australia at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday 27th of June.

Japan are favourites to win the game which will take place at BC Place but the Netherlands are determined to prove their place in the competition.

"These are the exact matches we love to play: a large podium, a huge crowd," manager Roger Reijners said. "This is probably the biggest one that they've played up to now. We have put a goal in our heads and it means that we need to win as many as you can win. The more the better...  if things go well we'll know exactly where we stand."

The winning team will secure a final place in the quarter finals which already sees Germany against France, USA taking on China and an elated England facing home team Canada, thanks to a long range goal from Lucy Bronze.

England will have their work cut out for them here as they previously lost a match to Canada 1-0 in a pre-tournament friendly.

USA are not to be taken lightly having previously won the tournament twice.

Here are the times for those matches.
