Colin Lynch has finished second to claim silver in his C2 Time Trial this afternoon in Rio, to capture Ireland's fourth medal of the Paralympics.
A time of 28:02.25 around the 20km course was enough to see him finish behind Tristen Chernove of Canada.
"It's something I've worked at now for four years and it's an absolute dream," he told Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan.
"It's a dream to finally achieve the one thing that I didn't have in the closet which is a Paralympic medal.
"After London I had to do a lot of soul searching and had to ask myself if I was capable of performing at the top level still. After making some changes and reassessing everything that I was doing I was able to come back.
"Ever since then I've been winning medals, specifically in the time trial, every single year at an international level. I knew that this was something I was capable of doing."
Lynch said that the changes he made to his camp were wholesale, but have clearly paid dividends.
"I've changed everything, we've got new coaches and new equipment. I got a new cycling leg made for Rio with the help of a lot of people back home. I've been focusing on everything from aerodynamics to training regimes and making sure I arrive at the start line in the best possible fashion.
"We spent a lot of time with the designers of the legs back home, they did wind tunnel testing trying to figure out what the best design was. I've done a lot of aero-testing to refine my position on the bike. Even the bike itself, the choice of wheels and tire as well as skin suit. Everything. Every last little detail was looked at to try and squeeze all those seconds out."
