Bamford remains undecided on his international future

Patrick Bamford is undecided on whether to declare for the Republic of Ireland but insists he's not closed the door on the option.

The striker says he's currently focusing on his club career at Leeds, where he's found the net four times in seven games this season.

Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has said previously that Bamford needs to make the next move following meetings between the pair.

“I’ve been messaging him. If he wants to play, he’s got my number, he can send me a message. I’ve done all the chasing.

“If he rings me up and he wants to play, then yes. But let me ask you a question. If you are an Irish player and you thought that you were good enough to play for Ireland, what would you do? Would you pick the phone up? That’s what I did. If he wants to play, he’s got to do that."

The 26-year-old claims a lot of "rubbish" has been written in the media around the issue and says he's still weighing up his options.

"I spoke to Mick and he asked me to basically change over nationality for the summer games and I said ‘look I had a bad injury last year and I want to concentrate on the season with Leeds," he told The Yorkshire Post.

"I am not saying no, I am just concentrating on Leeds. I haven’t closed any doors, I have not said yes, I have not said no."

Bamford played for Ireland up to under-18 level before switching to England at under-21.
