Alexis Sanchez set to join Inter Milan on loan

Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez is expected to join Inter Milan on loan by the end of the week, with the Italian club putting together an offer for the Chilean.

The Serie A club have already signed striker Romelu Lukaku from United and Sanchez looks to be next for Antonio Conte.

Sanchez was left out of the United squad for Monday's 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed after the game that several clubs were interested. The forward is a significant drain on the Manchester United wage bill.

"There's still a couple of weeks left of the transfer window. There's still a chance. Some clubs have shown an interest in Alexis." said the Manchester United boss.

Subsidise

Sanchez's current wages reported to be around £400,000 weekly. That is far beyond what Inter are willing to pay or currently pay any of their stars.

United would most likely have to subsidise the Chilean's salary in order to force the move through.

The issue for Solskjaer is the paucity of options should Sanchez go and one of the frontline strikers picks up an injury. Mason Greenwood is popular with the Norwegian, but is young and green.

With Thursday night jaunts to potentially far-flung destinations around Europe upcoming this season, United may want Sanchez around.

It hasn't been an easy 19 months for Alexis Sanchez since arriving from Arsenal. His 45 appearances in total have yielded just five goals.

The Chilean scored just once in the Premier League last season, half of his season-long goalscoring contribution to the club.

Form

Sanchez did find some form this year when playing in the Copa America - he scored twice during that tournament. Participating in the Copa, and a return to goalscoring form ruled him out of Manchester United's pre-season tour.

It is understood that no matter what Solskjaer wants the player has been given assurances by the club that he is free to leave, should the right offer come in.

Inter hope a deal can be concluded over the next few days and Sanchez will be in the squad for the first Serie A game of the year against Lecce on Monday.
