Thousands turn out as Giro crosses the line in Dublin

The third stage of the Giro d'Italia has crossed the line in Dublin.

Marcel Kittel has won the race for the second day in a row while Ben Swift came second, with Elia Viviani in third.

Australian Michael Matthews retains the leader's pink jersey.

200 élite cyclists came from Armagh, down the east coast through Dundalk and Drogheda, finishing up in Dublin's Merrion Square at around twenty past four this afternoon.

Thousands of people lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the race and the famous pink jersey.

The event is expected to provide a huge boost to Ireland as it was broadcast to 775 million TV viewers worldwide.

Fáilte Ireland's described the event as "publicity you can't buy".

Newstalk was on the streets of Dublin today speaking to spectators who had come from all over and were all excited to the cyclists crossing the line this afternoon.
