Germany's Marco Reus out of World Cup with ligament injury

Germany’s World Cup hopes have suffered a blow with the news that Marco Reus will miss the tournament due to injury. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder suffered torn ankle ligaments during last night’s friendly win over Armenia. Sampdoria’s Shkodran Mustafi replaces Reus in the squad.

The German FA announced after the game that Reus will be out for up to 8 weeks, saying in a statement that Reus “suffered a partial tear of his anterior ligament above his left ankle”.

The German squad travel to Brazil today and face a tough group stage, with Portugal, Ghana and the United States joining them in Group G. Reus has been a key player for Germany, following a superb season for Dortmund.
