Could Messi's Barca future hinge on Aguero and Pinto?

Recent rumours surrounding Lionel Messi and his Barcelona future revolve around a suggestion that he wants the club to sign Sergio Aguero as he considers a new contract.

The future of long-time Barca substitute goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto is also said to be a point of argument, with the 38-year-old's deal set to expire at the end of next month.

Our European football correspondent Graham Hunter says that the Argentine has become much more "demonstrative about what he does or doesn't want" as he grows older.

"I think it is undeniable that Pinto is his ally. They get on - even though he grew up with Pique and Fabregas - I think he gets on with Pinto best out of the entire squad. It is the case that Pinto feels undervalued," explained Graham, who does not think it is inconceivable that the Messi camp may push for long-time reserve goalkeeper Pinto to be given a new contract.

"Aguero and Messi have long harboured this idea about playing together domestically. It was the case that Aguero was a long-standing target of the now departed president Sandro Rosell. It is feasible that they asked about Aguero and I don't think that kind of request is unhealthy."

While they may ask, he does not think the Messi camp would demand Aguero's signature.

Graham also gave his take on the La Liga title race and whether this convoluted sprint to the finish will end with a Barcelona or Atletico Madrid triumph, but he added that Barca "don't train as they play" anymore.
