'Celtic are a Europa League team at best'

When you're given a second bite at the cherry, you'd want to take it.

But Celtic blew their chance last night as they were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers at the hands of an ordinary Maribor outfit.

Granted Celtic were lucky to be at the playoff stage, having got past Legia Warsaw by default rather than on the pitch.

But is there hope for the 1967 European Cup champions and can they turn their fortunes around in Europe?

The Scottish Sun's Robert Grieve joined us on the line and he feels there is a "real need for investment".

Grieve acknowledged that the Celtic board have a tough balancing act between keeping costs down and trying to have an impact in Europe.

"Celtic right now are a Europa League team - at best," said Grieve, adding that manager Ronny Deila has been vocal about the lack of quality in the squad.

"I think the vast majority of Celtic fans pin the blame on the board. You can argue the business sense of spending fortunes on the team when realistically they don't have to do that to win the Scottish league. At the same time, although I don't think fans are focusing on Ronny Deila, he is also facing some questions."
