A monster $400,000 bet has been placed on the All Blacks to retain the Webb-Ellis trophy by the end of their encounter with Australia, possibly the largest bet in RWC history.
The bet, equivalent to around €247,000 (Thanks Google!), is three times the previous RWC record bet from New Zealand($130,000), placed back in August on the All Blacks to bomb in England by an Auckland native.
The All Blacks are yet to lose so far in this years tournament and are favourites heading into this afternoons clash with the Wallabies, with the anonymous punter looking to rake in a $140,000 (€86,379) profit should they win.
Mark Stafford, from Kiwi bookies TAB, said;
"It's the biggest bet in our history. It's incredible. We did not see this coming because most of the money has been going on the Wallabies over the last few days."
"It's head-to-head, no margins involved. It's simply on the All Blacks beating the Wallabies tomorrow morning."
"It's a big bet, but the liability is only $140,000 so we don't need to sell a massive amount on the Wallabies to offset that."
The bet is double that of New Zealand's previous record, which was a $220,000 (€135,738) bet that Brazil to beat China at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
