Cork captain Rena Buckley on a very different 2017 experience

Last year, it was Kilkenny who came out on top in the All Ireland Camogie final as Cork's three in a row bid came to an abrupt halt.

But on Sunday, Cork got some measure of revenge after a 0-10 to 0-9 win over the same opponents in the 2017 final at Croke Park.

For Cork captain Rena Buckley, it's yet another All Ireland medal - indeed, it's her seventh - and she joined Joe to talk about the achievement and how she's balancing her playing career with the off the field matters.

Indeed, normally Buckley is a dual player, having won 11 All Ireland Ladies Football titles. But she decided to go with just the camogie this year.

"This year has been different for me, the first year that I haven't played any football. So I actually haven't been playing club football either because our football club Donoughmore didn't field an adult football team this year, so I've been solely playing one sport," said the multiple All Star.

"It's the first time in my whole life that I've been focusing on one sport. It's very different, I must say. There is definitely the sense of freshness to it and you're not in and out of teams. You're with one team the whole time. Obviously, it's a benefit to the sport that you're playing."

Buckley also cited the importance of recovery from training and matches as one gets older.

"As I'm getting to my later years now, probably I might move to focus on the one," she said, adding that "I'm 30 this year".

On the work-sport balance, she explained the different things that are being kept in mind on and off the field.

"I'm trying to juggle between work and playing GAA as much as I can. To be honest, I don't have time for much else," said Buckley.
