Seán Óg Ó hAilpín happy he never turned to professional sport

Former Cork legend Seán Óg Ó hAilpín says he is glad he never got involved in the professional side of sport.

The former hurler says is happy hurling hasn't turned professional after seeing his brother's heartaches when they played Australian Rules Football.

Ó hAilpín joined Nathan Murphy on this evening's OTB to talk about a range of issues including complications of professional contracts in sport.

Seán Óg message was simple. Life goes on in the amateur game, where as he believes the professional game creates more stress because of potential financial complications.

"Galway beat us in 2012, and I mean the following morning I was just in work. Life moves on."

The Na Piarsaigh man say the the stress his brother's Setanta and Aisake came under whilst under contract at their respective ARL clubs made him realise how happy he was hurling had not turned professional.

"If you'd of asked me as an 18-year-old - I would have loved to have seen myself as a professional hurler. After going through the last twenty years, and talking to my two brother's expereience in professional sport in Australia; I'd take what I had."

The former dual county player expressed that his playing career did not impact his day-to- day life. He relays that life in amateur sport goes on win, lose or draw. He says he was happy with the balance in the amateur game.

"I wasn't on the train back to Cork saying: 'What am I going to do tomorrow or how am I going to put bread on the table?!,' I just went back to Ulster Bank, and just went working. So, there was a great balance struck."
